“The ‘good school’ myth” (6 April) ran over five pages, only to tell me that “social background has far more impact on GCSE scores than where pupils are educated”. There was no mention of the vast literature on the sociology of education that has covered this subject and other relevant topics many times and reached the same conclusion.
The sad point is that no corrective action has been taken by central government or local education authorities other than to rearrange deckchairs on the Titanic.
