* THE “Testing at 7” debate (TES, August 30) highlighted the intense, product-oriented nature of advice once offered to David Blunkett. Conor Ryan’s blinkered tautology says much about short-term political machinations, while Jane Davidson, Welsh education minister, offers tangible links to teaching and learning for early learners. At least the spirit of the learning process is somewhat alive in part of the UK.
