Adrian Mourby (March 23) has fun with what he supposes are the hypocritical reasons parents have for wanting their children given a Christian education in a state-funded school.

It may say something about him that such fun can be poked at middle-class, probably white, Christians, but was evidently out of order when Muslim and Sikh schools secured state funding in 1998, at the same time as the exclusively black John Loughborough Seventh Day Adventist school.

There is no reason why taxpayers and parents should fund and choose exclusively non-religious schools. The Green Paper Building on Success perceives that they may, in increasing numbers, refuse to do that. Nor is this growing stubbornness the monopoly of white, middle class hypocrites.
