Letters extra: Baby lost by stress of teaching

https://www.tes.com/magazine/archive/letters-extra-baby-lost-stress-teaching

My baby died during my pregnancy while I was teaching in a stressful school. No GP would say that stress killed it but I am not taking any chances next time.

I am now about to start a part-time job teaching in an independent school where I doubt I will be threatened or verbally abused, and I will do the odd bit of supply teaching when it suits me in carefully selected schools.

I have found that I can earn almost as much teaching in a “nice” school as I can working in an ordinary comprehensive. It seems I am yet another teacher walking away from the state system.
