With regard to the letter from the student teacher complaining his was not a shortage subject and hence he did not qualify for the pound;6,000 recruitment incentive and the pound;4,000 golden hello (p28 TES, March 7). If you think that is unfair, what about spending two years doing an undergraduate BSc secondary science course knowing that the person sitting next to you in class doing a two year PGCE course will be paid all of the incentives and you will get nothing!

If the TTA are to pay incentives for shortage subjects they should be for all of the students on that course, irrespective of their course entry qualifications.
