How can Mr Lane, chair of the National Employers Organisation for School Teachers make such a ridiculous statement as: “Police receive more London weighting, because teachers have longer holidays” ( TES March 8).

Does he not realise that teachers have already worked more than these hours as unpaid overtime during term time? Can we as teachers get extras to make up for all the police extras, such as higher salaries, paid overtime and free travel?

It costs everyone the same to live in London, therefore the weighting should be the same for all public employees.
