Congratulations to Stuart Newton, headteacher of Selsdon high school, Croydon, for jetting across the world and grasping the opportunity to recruit seven teachers from South Africa (“Calling international rescue”, Opinion, July 27).
I am the deputy headteacher of a school in Surrey and we embrace overseas teachers. Our staffroom and our classrooms have benefited from the presence of teachers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. They bring a new cultural perspective into the school and they also do a very professional job.
My advice to colleagues who are still searching for staff for September is go global and enrich your school’s experience.
