I’m extremely surprised that Wendy Fortescue-Hubbard, having explicitly posed the question as to whether it is ethical for teachers to tutor the children they are teaching already (TES Teacher 1423 page 38) should fail to answer with an unequivocal no.nbsp; It could easily be that teachers in the course of their duties might be giving a small amount of individual extra help - to be doing so for some and not for others for payment could cause all kinds of problems in the classroom.

So can I suggest the answer Wendy should have given: no teacher should give paid tutorial help to the children they are timetabled to teach, and no head of department should do so for any child in their school.
