GOOSEBUMPS author RL Stine clocked up the highest number of children’s loans from British public libraries this year. The 140 books by the USmass-market horror writer were borrowed more than a million times in total. Other favourites included Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, Janet am; Allan Ahlberg and Lucy “Animal Ark” Daniels. J K Rowling’s first three Harry Potter novels top the charts for loans of individual children’s fiction titles. The figures for June 1999-July 2000 are released by Public Lending Right, which makes payments to authors.
