I would like to endorse many of the comments in your feature “Librarians should get out there ... and start knocking on doors” (February 6). But I take exception to the title.

In addition to managing the school library and reinforcing information literacy techniques, librarians make it their business to integrate the library and its resources in a way which meets the requirements of the school. Timetabled classes reflect how busy and central to the school the library is. At the time of writing, I have English and option classes for year groups in S2, S4 and S5 booked in. Other subjects will be fitted into this busy schedule. In addition, we deliver a library information skills programme, which includes use of the internet, to all first-year pupils.

A programme has been developed whereby pupils are given the opportunity to plan for subject choices, including one lesson for research using careers resources, databases and the internet.

I regard myself as an equal partner in the pursuit of A Curriculum for Excellence. My feet hardly touch the ground.
