THE case of six-year-old Sonny Lang, who was diagnosed as having cystic fibrosis at 13 months has prompted calls for the introduction of national screening.

Sonny’s life was saved by the diagnosis but not before the disease hadcaused irreparable damage to her lungs.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust says a simple test costing pound;2 could help identify hundreds of cases a year, but the Department of Health has refused to introduce national screening.
