Research by the Sutton Trust shows that of 100 top newspaper journalists and broadcasters, more than half attended private schools, a further third went to grammars and only 14 per cent to comprehensives. Of those with a degree, more than half went to Oxbridge. But a quick survey of the crucible of talent that is the TES newsroom suggests things may be changing. While four reporters out of nine attended private schools (one on a scholarship, he bleats), five went to comprehensives. And six went to non-Oxbridge universities. But all three at Oxbridge attended private schools.
