Our article “Phillips’ publisher agrees damages” (TES, April 18) wrongly stated that Patricia McLagan, a language teaching adviser, whose work is criticised in Melanie Phillips’ book All Must Have Prizes, had won out-of-court damages from the publisher.
We accept that following a complaint from Mrs McLagan, Little Brown, without admitting liability, agreed to alter references to her in the text to explain Mrs McLagan’s methods of teaching a foreign language to less able pupils, and to pay her legal costs.
We apologise to Ms Phillips, Little Brown and Mrs McLagan for any embarrassment caused.
