The British Museum has a new Money Gallery courtesy of a generous donation from HSBC Holdings, the banking and financial services organisation. Through a world-wide selection of objects spanning 4,000 years, the HSBC Money Gallery traces the history of money and its variety and uses. Exhibits range from ancient means of payment such as grain, metal and shells to the coins, banknotes and electronic money in use today.
