Support by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland rose by 5.2 per cent to pound;482.6 million in 2008-09, though the number of students supported increased by only 1.9 per cent to 124,845. Figures released by the Government’s statistical service also showed student indebtedness stands at pound;187m, as loan authorisations went up by 1.4 per cent, despite a fall of 1.3 per cent of students receiving loans.
