Coca-Cola - Art of the Bottle. Free (while stocks last) from Art of the Bottle, Hobsons AR Publishing, Abberley House, Granhams Road, Great Shelford, Cambridge, CB2 5LQ.

The Coca-Cola bottle is one of the design milestones of the 20th century. This pack traces the history of Coke and introduces a competition for schools.

A wealth of colour illustrations explains the marketing of the drink from its humble beginnings in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1886 to its dominance of the world soft drinks market. There is useful information for students of contemporary design, product development and marketing strategies - and for teachers looking at the “products and applications” strand in the national curriculum.

The competition challenges pupils to produce a piece of artwork based on the Coca-Cola bottle, linking it in some away to the local community. There are two age groups, 11-16 and 16-18. National winners will receive professional support to develop the design in three dimensions, a place in the “Coca-Cola” Folk Art Exhibition world tour, a trip to Lisbon to see the exhibition and Pounds 250. Regional winners will receive Pounds 100. Send an A4 SAE for the pack to: “Coca-Cola” Art of the Bottle, Hobsons Publishing plc, Bateman Street, Cambridge CB2 1LZ. Deadline for entries is 31 December.
