Logotron, an educational software publisher, has overhauled the junior version of its database program, Junior Viewpoint. The program supports database activities in ICT and the national numeracy strategy at key stages 1 and 2. Its main use is in Finding Things Out topic work, which is near the top of the DfEE’s agenda for ICT in primary schools.

The program allows pupils to work up to level 5 in national curriculum ICT and has an interface designed to simplify data-handling. Pupils can sort and search through data they have entered and create pie, bar, line and scatter graphs using all the data or subsets of it. Links to websites can also be included on data collection sheets, and ready-made projects and activities using Junior Powerpoint are available on the publisher’s website. It will also read files created in other educational databases.

Junior ViewPoint is available on CD for PC (Windows 95 or better) and Macintosh (PowerPC or better) at pound;49 + VAT for a single-user pack, multi-copy licenses are available. Existing users of Junior PinPoint are entitled to special upgrade prices, call Logotron on 01223 425558 x 795 for more details or visit its website at www.logo.com.
