Maria Carlton of the National Confederation of Parent-Teacher Associations made a revealing comment about the school in-service training day at Ascot, namely that: “Parents often have to take time off to look after kids on inset days.”
Is this what really rankles? That parents have to look after their own children? Have people forgotten that the five inset days were created by reducing teachers’ holidays? If there were no inset days the children would still be off school - and we would be on holiday!
