Teachers are the least bored of any graduate professionals, according to a study of more than 2,000 21 to 45-year-olds by the Training and Development Agency for Schools. It found that teachers demonstrated high levels of enjoyment, concentration and absorption in their daily tasks.

It was people working in administration, manufacturing, sales and marketing who were most likely to be wishing their working life away, says the first Workforce Boredom Index. Next on the boredom threshold were those in IT and telecommunications, science research, media and law.

Asked why they find their work so interesting, 81 per cent of teachers said they relished the challenge. No two days were the same, they said.
