A MANCHESTER University survey of 370 special schools and units has found that the mean number of pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties who return to mainstream schools each year was fewer than two for each institution - under 5 per cent.

Dr Peter Farrell says the prospects for EBD pupils did not seem good, especially when more pupils were being referred for special provision.
