YOU recounted how I travelled for an interview from Africa only to find the post had been filled (“Thwarted job-seeker claims for wasted trip,” TES, May 18). Printed alongside is an article about Surrey education authority recruiting abroad (“Surrey probes South America for teachers”).
Why do education authorities travel around the world, attracting teacers to the UK, but returning expats are expected to pay for themselves? Why not look after what you have before looking around the world? I would have thought having expats return home would be better than having a culture-shocked teacher from another country.
