A south Wales school has banned the wearing of charity wristbands because they present a safety risk.

The bands come in a rainbow of colours depending on the cause they support and have become a fashion item sported by celebrities.

But Carole Anderson, headteacher at Monmouth comprehensive, said: “We don’t want anything dangling that could get caught in a lathe or on laboratory equipment.”
