The pound;200 million proposal to bring four Glasgow colleges together is facing another wrangle. The consequences of closer collaboration leading to a rationalisation of courses to avoid wasteful duplication has alarmed the nautical college, whose board held an emergency meeting last Wednesday.

Nobody was prepared to comment, but the college fears only its maritime courses will remain, leaving it vulnerable to fluctuations in the industry and hampering regeneration in the Gorbals area it serves.
