All 250 specialist language colleges should teach Mandarin, Sir Cyril Taylor, chair of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, has told MPs.
“Mandarin is a strategic world language,” he said. “But the difficulty is getting teachers who can teach Mandarin. We are hoping to supply that by getting Chinese teachers.”
He estimated that 400 of the trust’s schools taught the language at present, not all of them language colleges.
