A global competition begins this week to see who knows their geography best - the UK or the USA. Every resident from both sides of the Atlantic is being called upon to participate in the first Geography Cup to decide which country has the better geographical knowledge.

The organisers of the transatlantic contest are the UK-based Give Geography its Place Campaign. Anyone from the UK or the USA with access to a computer can take part by visiting www.geography cup.com until December 31.

The final national score will be a percentage based on the number of people who have taken part. There will also be a leader board for each country so members will be able to see who has come out top within their own country.
