Supermarket offers that don’t add up
TES Resources user Bwellbrook has snapped some mischievous photos in UK supermarkets, so that pupils can uncover the maths errors in the shops’ special offers.
What is it?
A photo slideshow of supermarket offer signs containing dodgy maths: half-price plums, reduced from #163;2.59 to #163;1.00; 20 per cent off T-shirts, which were #163;15 and are now #163;12; and washing-up liquid priced at #163;1 each or two for #163;2.50. Pupils practise fractions, decimals and percentages as they work out what is wrong with each sign.
