Mature students in decline;In brief

University applications from mature candidates have continued to fall, with a 2.5 per cent drop since last year. The number of overseas candidates has also declined. However the total of under-21s wanting places has remained static, according to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. Computer science has now overtaken law as the second most popular subject, after business and management studies.
