In response to your exciting article on the Maharishi School (“DfE contemplates meditation independent’s free school bid”, 28 January), I object to Alasdair Smith’s cheap comment about “mountebanks”.
There is a great deal of excellent research validating the effectiveness of meditation, such as the Peace Project in Jerusalem in 1983 and the 1972 meditation groups in 24 large American cities, which showed an astonishing drop in crime and violence.
