Children in Britain are more likely to have seen a hippopotamus than a harvest mouse, a situation New Forest Nature Quest aims to redress. Combining high-tech viewing facilities with animal husbandry, NFNQ allows visitors to study rare and secretive creatures such as sand lizards, voles, weasels and stoats at close quarters, while learning about conservation through talks, demonstrations and “meet the creatures” sessions. Breeding programmes for species particularly at risk are planned. Details: New Forest Nature Quest, Longdown, Ashurst, Hampshire. Tel: 01703 292408.
