Age: 25 I’ve just finished my first placement with a Primary 4 class and keeping up with my university work at the same as teaching was a lot harder than I’d thought it would be.
I want to become a teacher because I enjoy working in a classroom It’s always changing, there are always things happening, and it’s a stimulating, exciting environment.
The most exciting thing that’s happened to me so far was receiving home-made cards from pupils at the end of my placement.
But I’m really not looking forward to all the paperwork. There are so many forms to fill in, even just for an activity. Then there’s marking and record-keeping I don’t understand why there aren’t more men in primary. Out of the 115 people on my course, only 10 are male.
I hope I’ll be the kind of teacher whose classes will be fun, but who won’t be seen as a pushover.
The Scottish education system is changing - and perhaps not always for the better.There’s more forms to be filled in and many teachers are spending so much time on paperwork that they are losing sight of being with and teaching the children.
