Another oddly-titled outfit, “CiLT, the National Centre for Languages” is the organisation which, according to its own blurb “seeks to promote a greater national capability in languages”.

I hear it has a new director, one Isabella Moore, the immediate past president of the British Chambers of Commerce.

The “CiLT” part stands for the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research, which merged with the Languages National Training Organisation.

So the “CiLt” bit, apart from being a disastrous typographical error waiting to happen, is also redundant. Hopefully, in the interest of clarity of communication, a subject which we must assume is close to her heart, she will do something about the organisation’s title.
