Mini letter boxes

Everyone loves to receive a letter. I discovered with this activity that Year 2 are no exception. I bought 31 brightly coloured small gift boxes.

The children wrote their names on a label before sticking it on the lid of their chosen box. We placed all the boxes on a table together with a supply of small pieces of paper and pens. Whenever the children had a spare moment they would write messages to each other and place them in the right box.

I thought that the activity would be short lived, but it lasted the whole year, with some children writing lovely messages to their friends every day. I had to get a slightly bigger box for all my messages and the children insisted our teaching assistant and trainee teacher had boxes as well.
