Education minister Jane Hutt had a brief respite from the foundation phase fiasco last week during a visit to Cardiff’s Llanedeyrn High School.

The secondary, which was removed from special measures earlier this year, may soon be closed under the capital’s reorganisation plans.

Ms Hutt has the ultimate power to overturn the closure on appeal, but she refused to comment. “I think the school is certainly going to progress now into the future and I’m very pleased to wish them well,” was all she would say.

Julian Doroszczuk, who is currently head of Birchgrove Comprehensive in Swansea, will lead Llanedeyrn from September. He said he would go all out to avoid closure. “I want to make it a good school that nobody in their right mind would close,” he said.
