Karen Thornton and Tomos Livingstone The efforts of councils and bus operators to improve school transport safety will fail unless parents and pupils can be persuaded of the importance of good behaviour, Assembly members were warned this week.

Jane Davidson, education and lifelong learning minister, responding to the education committee’s report on school transport, said work undertaken by the Welsh government and others “will lead to better pupil behaviour and safer school transport”.

The report calls for the abolition of “three for two” seating on buses, seat-belts provision and greater use of CCTV and adult escorts.
