UNLIKE Yasmin Alibhai-Brown (TES, June 18), I don’t believe that Margaret Thatcher’s attack on the Inner London Education Authority in the 1980s was primarily to decimate anti-racist and multicultural education. Rather it was to expose the scandalously low standards which ensured that the many ethnic minorities in these schools failed to achieve their full potential: a view enthusiastically pursued by New Labour.
