The attainment of ethnic minority students is a hot topic and teachers are looking for strategies to counter negative trends. The week after next (May 22) sees the national launch of the Ethnic Minority Attainment Online Portal. Funded by the Department for Education and Skills, this has been developed by Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester local authorities working with a consortium of commercial partners led by Netmedia.

The EMA portal supports all teachers of pupils with English as an additional language. It contains resources, news, links, virtual learning materials and a biographical database celebrating black achievement.
