I READ with interest Ted Wragg’s analysis on the pressures on 11-year-olds forced to spend the whole of Year 6 in preparation for national tests. Pity then the 11-year-olds in Kent which still has selective education.
My 10-year-old daughter Emily is already stressed out at the thought of sitting 11-plus tests in January, understanding fully the implications of passing or failing. Once this testing is over she will be overdue a break. Instead she will be cramming for the key stage 2 tests in May. Pressures are great enough on children when they start secondary school.
Why can’t they enjoy their last year in primary instead of it making their lives a misery?
