Celebrate the linguists of tomorrow

Language learning website Vocab Express is launching its first national championship in 2012. It is open to all schools in the UK and Ireland and is free of charge. The championship challenges pupils to learn as much vocabulary as possible in their selected languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, Arabic, Urdu and Latin). Pupils who learn the most words in each language will win an Amazon book voucher. The contest will run from 29 February to 6 March.

Pupils can log in and test their vocabulary knowledge on the competition list, then check their progress against other competitors on the scoreboard and real-time tracking system. Current Vocab Express members are automatically enrolled. If you would like to get involved and are not a member, email champs@vocabexpress.com. For more details, visit www.vocabexpress.com

What else?

Prepare pupils for the championships with these resources from TES.

- Flex pupils’ brain muscles with petermorris2001‘s guide for MFL memory skills.

- Practise Spanish “In the town” vocabulary with pictorial dominoes from Martin Lapworth.

- Use KEJREV’s board game template to turn French vocabulary learning into play.
