Money and cost of study on my mind

I was distressed to hear about the Browne review into higher education funding. It is a backward step at a time when we are concerned about the lack of social mobility in our society and when two out of our three party leaders are privately educated.

What worries me is the effect on the children - not just of the poor, but also of those with moderate incomes. As Oxbridge co-ordinator in my school I can say to my students that they can aspire to the best, as it is no more expensive to study there than elsewhere. They can then choose worthwhile but modestly remunerated careers, and make the best use of their educations, rather than high income City jobs. These days will end.
