GENEROUS TES readers have now donated pound;163,500 to help get children in Afghanistan back into school. The total raised by the TES-UNICEF Children Helping Children appeal has shot up from pound;119,000 to pound;163,500 in the past three weeks as schools collect the takings from fundraising events at the end of the summer term. That is enough to buy 700,000 storybooks, 37,360 chalkboards, or five million pens. Heather Jarvis, head of UNICEF’s education department, said: “We are delighted that the TES appeal is doing so well. These funds will help UNICEF go that much futher to help rebuild education in Afghanistan.”
