More than a day

At Finchley Reform Synagogue in London, a candle is lit in remembrance of those who died in the Holocaust; this was part of an event for local secondary schools organised by the synagogue and the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (www.hmd.org.uk).

"We encourage young people to visit synagogues throughout the year," said Stephen Smith, the trust's chair. "Remembering Jewish suffering should not be confused with learning about Jewish life and culture."
