Intel Education has produced two tools for developing thinking skills. In the Visual Ranking section of its website students can rank a range of data. Once a number of students have done this, they can compare their decisions. A correlation mark is worked out to show how alike or different their choices are. The Seeing Reason section enables students to draw cause and effect diagrams (the website example looks at traffic jams). Once the diagram has been completed they can look for data on the net or collect their own by observing a situation. Using colour-coding and different sizes, the diagram can then be adapted to reflect the amount of effect that each action has on the situation.
