Q: I will soon be moving house and the actual day is likely to be during the week. Am I entitled to a day off for this, and if so how much notice do I need to give the school?

A: The employment contract you received after you took the job may make reference to a local agreement on this point. You might be allowed to take the day off for moving. However, don’t expect to change home every term and receive the same concession as that would look like someone abusing the system. As for giving notice, it is what is reasonable. Most house moves are planned in advance, so a school will expect plenty of warning. If you have to move at short notice, I guess you will be expected to provide an explanation.
