Mobile phones, the bane of many teachers’ lives, can be effective classroom aids, say researchers. They can be used for setting homework reminders, timing experiments and recording teachers.

Phones which allow pupils to access the internet also enable them to transfer electronic files between school and home. But the researchers at Nottingham University acknowledge that mobile phone use is not without problems. One teacher, who distributed school phones to pupils during lessons, said: “Well, four of those are going to end up on eBay.”
