I note with interest the provision of a Gradgrind-focused school room in a new Dickens World due to open shortly in Rochester, Kent (TES, April 27).
It seems incongruous, however, that the desks should be fitted with computers so that pupils can be tested on their knowledge of the author.
Surely a slate and a cane would do the job more efficiently?
