Muddy pay scales

I refer to last week’s article in the FE Focus section of the TESS, on “Gap widens as colleges pay what they can afford”.

The article refers to Glasgow College of Food Technology as being at the “bottom of the league” and quotes pound;25,440 as the maximum salary for lecturers. Your facts are wrong. Lecturers at the top of the scale earn pound;26,508.

A quarter of our lecturers are at the top of the scale. Inaccuracies such as this will have little issue for you but leave a fair amount of mud for us. Can I suggest that you check facts with individual organisations before you go to print. A prominent retraction would be helpful.

Donald Leitch Principal, Glasgow College of Food Technology
