“Hello”, “Bonjour”, “No”, “Kem-chho” - headteachers are only human. They can’t speak every pupil’s first language, but getting a clear message to parents can be essential, and sometimes only their own language will do.

Groupcall, which provides truancy management and parental contact systems for schools in Scotland, has produced a new multilingual version of its Messenger system. Schools can send voice and text messages in a range of languages to fixed line and mobile phones. Multilingual Messenger is available on subscription, with no specialised hardware or infrastructure needed.
