Last-minute sponsorship has reprieved the 42 regional festivals involving thousands of young musicians organised by Music for Youth.
The public services union, Unison and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music have donated Pounds 30,000 between them to ensure their continuation next year. Larry Westland, director of MfY, said it was “great news”. He had feared he would have to sacrifice the regional events in order to stage national festivals in Birmingham and Manchester as well as London.
