Green movie challenge

It’s a new term. Your class is over-excited. On one hand, you want to teach them something meaningful, but on the other, like them you want to be playing games like you were at the end of last term. So, Grand Designs presenter and designer Kevin McCloud is challenging young film-makers to dig out their cameras and “green up” their homes. The maker of the best short film will win:

- #163;1,500

- Canon HD camera equipment

- A commission to produce a #163;5,000 campaign film for WWF-UK.

The task?

Create a 60-second film that inspires people to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

The cause?

Awareness-building about energy efficiency, timed to coincide with the government’s Green Deal scheme.

Mr McCloud notes: “Not many people get excited by the thought of an energy-efficiency makeover to their homes, but they should - this is about homes that are warmer, cheaper to run and kinder to the planet.”

What would make people sit up and notice? How could this be expressed on film? It’s time to get planning. The competition is open to over-16s only and the deadline for submissions is 16 January.
