Glasgow artist Roderick Buchanan appears to have achieved the impossible: he has Protestant and Catholic flute bands playing in the same place, at the same time at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glas-gow. The exhibition, Histrionics, is an installation by him on the theme of sectarianism.

The artist filmed the two bands rehearsing in separate halls. He wanted them to play together but they refused. They did, however, agree that the films could be shown side by side. And if you close your eyes, shutting out the identifying uniforms, you can’t tell which is which. The music sounds the same. That is Buchanan’s point.

Histrionics, which runs until October 28, also features photographs of Rangers and Celtic players, above. Teachers’ notes and schools workshops are available.
